The 1972 album Power-Fuerza by Ghetto Brothers, which I first heard earlier this week, opened the rabbit hole which led to me discovering the William Onyeabor compilation I posted yesterday.
Vampisoul reissued the album in January and had this to say about the release on their Bandcamp page:
“Produced by boogaloo don Bobby Marin, this masterpiece is a sonic testament to the Ghetto Brothers' fusion of resilience, cultural richness, and musical innovation. Each track is a vibrant tapestry, weaving together the raw energy of the South Bronx streets and the soulful melodies born from the trio's Puerto Rican heritage.”
There’s a little bit of everything on this album. While the Latin funk that dominates brings shades of Santana, there’s also a track reminiscent of The Beatles and another where I could almost swear Lindsey Buckingham is on the mike.
This album’s been in my ears all day and I just can’t get enough.
Great album by the Bronx band! I have a copy on the Truth & Soul label.
