Lost in Translation Vol. 15 REVEALED

We visited the pop diva universe this week and the song was pretty obvious to a couple of our diehard readers.

It’s hard to believe that June has already arrived and I’ve now been home from my Hadrian’s Wall walking and London sightseeing expedition for over a week. After eight consecutive days of hiking I decided it would be wise to take it a little easier this week, to rest my weary knees and to give my slightly twisted ankle a chance to heal a little. What does “a little easier” look like? In hindsight, perhaps not as much as that phrase might otherwise imply! On Wednesday we drove over to Horton-in-Ribblesdale for a 6.5 mile circular walk to the summit of Pen-Y-Ghent, one of Yorkshire’s “Three Peaks”, which included close to 1,700 feet of elevation gain. Yesterday, after having recently seen a great video of Yordas Cave over in Kingsdale, I constructed a circular route that would get us there right from our front door (note to self: take your headlamp next time ROOKIE!). After a ten mile round trip and another 1,500 feet of elevation gain, albeit mostly on decent tracks, I was feeling pretty gimpy by the end of the day. A few days of rest (rest for real this time!) are probably in order before we head down to London on Wednesday to attend Friday’s Massive Attack/Air concert at Victoria Park. Although I only managed a couple walking days this week, I was able to get some decent photos along the way:

The Song

Throughout this series I’ve occasionally thrown in a song that I know will appeal to a specific reader; when doing so I always try to keep it a challenge. But as I’ve said several times before, I’m no longer sure what constitutes a challenging song as so often the songs that I thought were easy prove difficult and vice versa. Turns out that the superfan I had in mind—Andy, who writes the always wonderful The Vinyl Room—was all over this one and he jumped into the comments with the correct answer tout de suite. To be fair, he’s probably the biggest fanboy of any artist that I know, even exceeding my love for The Cure, so it wasn’t a surprise when he was the first one back with the correct answer. Notably, he was only a couple minutes ahead of Kevin Alexander, who also came up with the correct answer very quickly, despite being six hours behind the UK (but time zones don’t matter to clones do they? 😉 I’m onto you Kevin!! 🤣).

For those that didn’t see the responses in the comments or weren’t able to figure out the correct song, the lyrics come from the Mariah Carey track “Fantasy”, the lead single from her 1995 album Daydream. The song was a critical and commercial success, spending eight straight weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 after debuting in the top slot. The single also reached number one in more than half a dozen countries and went on to sell over 8 million copies. The album, driven by the singles “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day”—a track which spent an astonishing 16 consecutive weeks at number 1—was also spectacularly successful, selling over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums by women in history.
