Lost in Translation Vol. 19 REVEALED
I honestly thought I'd thrown out a challenge this week but within minutes the dream was crushed. Back to the drawing board for next week's final installment.
Happy Sunday folks! It’s a gorgeous day up here in the Yorkshire Dales, the first bright and sunny day in quite some time. On Monday Tina and I took a 15-minute drive and parked the car for a challenging hike I’d mapped out earlier that morning. After leaving the car in Kingsdale, we skirted around the south side of Braida Garth Wood, and ascended, incredibly sharply, on no discernable path, past Botany Bay and up to the scar before following a wall for a long and consistent climb. We eventually joined the Three Peaks Walk route to complete the ascent of Whernside, Yorkshire’s tallest mountain at 736 meters (2,415 feet). After reaching the summit, we headed west and descended sharply (1,000 feet in less than a mile) back down to the single lane road which connects Thornton in Lonsdale to Dent. Once we reached the road, it was a three mile walk back to the car, with a detour up to the incredible Yordas Cave. We’d visited the cave previously on a ten-mile circular walk from our house but had neglected to bring our headlamps. We didn’t make the same mistake this time and were rewarded with the ability to explore the entire cave and see the waterfall deep within its recesses. Absolutely amazing!
Below is our route along with some photos of this lovely and challenging walk (9.5 miles, 2,500+ feet of elevation gain).
And now what you’ve been waiting for! It’s time to provide the answer to Monday’s Lost in Translation.
The Translated Lyric
Here’s the lyric I provided:
In our burning love, we can survive without help.
Give us enough strength to hold on till dawn.
There is a fire burning in my heart, I can keep going.
And I shine in the darkness, I warned you.
The Original Lyric
And here’s the original lyric as it was before being passed through half a dozen languages:
In the heat of our love, don't need no help for us to make it
Gimme just enough to take us to the mornin'
I got fire in my mind, I get higher in my walkin'
And I'm glowin' in the dark, I give you warnin'

The Song
I honestly thought this one might be tougher than most because the lyrics did seem to be sufficiently mangled during the translation process. But apparently not!! Seemingly within minutes our resident music savant Kevin Alexander was into the comments with this:
(singing in falsetto)
🎶Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it🎶
Dream. Crushed. Gee thanks Kev, I thought you were my friend 😂😂😂. Pe of The Twelve Inch (Disco/80s) fame also clearly knew the correct answer although he was a little later than Kevin due to Kevin’s seeming ability to simultaneously exist in multiple dimensions and multiple time zones.
Yes, indeed, this week’s song was the Bee Gee’s global smash hit Night Fever from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The track spent eight weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to sell an estimated 40 million copies globally.
Tomorrow I’ll be posting the final song in the Lost in Translation series. I’ll TRY to come up with something more challenging so the series can go out with a bang rather than a whimper. We’ll see, I guess. I’ve had a lot of fun with this series over the last five months; thanks to all who came along for the ride!!
Here’s the music video for this week’s song, cued up at the start of the lyric:
Feel free to jump into the comments with your thoughts:
How did you do? Were you close? Or completely stumped?
Did you know this song already?
Would you have been able to name the song from the original lyrics?
We’ll see you again tomorrow with a new installment of Lost in Translation. Until then, happy listening!!
Lol what a surprise winner!
I got it immediately too (the only one I have, which I hope is some consolation to you), but Kevin had already commented. Being a huge Bee Gees fan for most of my life, I'd have been ashamed if I hadn't recognized it!
