Lost in Translation Vol. 5 REVEALED
Lost in Translation is back with the answer to this week's song! And this week we had a winner!!
It’s Friday, which means we’re back with the answer to Monday’s Lost in Translation.
The Translated Lyric
Here’s the lyric I provided:
Who came before me
They live according to their own destiny
From past to graduation
They never look back.
The Original Lyric
And here’s the original lyric as it was before being passed through half a dozen languages:
Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more

The Song
Way back in January when I was starting to pull together candidate songs for this series I decided to give some New Order songs a try. Once I settled on this track, I remember thinking how much of a fan Kevin Alexander is of the band and wondering whether he’d chime in with the correct answer. And he didn’t disappoint!
Kevin was the first to jump into the comments and he hit the nail on the head: “I'm not 100% sure here, but I'm going with New Order's "Blue Monday."” The 1983 single, which reached the top 10 in ten countries, and spent an incredible 186 weeks on the UK Independent Singles Chart, appeared on certain cassette and CD copies of Power, Corruption and Lies before its inclusion on the 1987 compilation Substance. It’s undeniably a synth-pop classic and has been cited by numerous outfits as one of the greatest songs of all time.
Here’s the music video, cued up at the start of this week’s mystery lyric:
Feel free to jump into the comments with your thoughts:
How did you do? Were you close? Or completely stumped?
Did you know this song already?
Would you have been able to name the song from the original lyrics?
We’ll see you again on Monday with a new installment of Lost in Translation. Until then, happy listening!!
Thanks for the shout! It's a biased opinion, but for me, this is one of the greatest dance tracks of all time. I'm just happy I finally cracked the code on one of these!
This was great! I think the hint you gave really helped narrow things down a bit. Look forward to the next one!
