Welcome to Joy in the Journey, my first foray into the world of. . . . the world of what? Publishing? Blogging? Newsletter-ing? Okay, instead of worrying about what to call this space, let’s just talk about what I’ll be doing here. Quite simple, really: I’ll be sharing semi-regular (hopefully weekly) musings on where and how I find joy in my life.
I’m guessing 86.3% of my posts will be about music, truly my first love, a consistent and enduring feature of my life from my first memory of it (the wall-mounted Hummel music box in my childhood bedroom that played the Brahms Lullaby) all the way to the soft rock song that my Sonos woke me up with this morning (Dancing In The Moonlight by King Harvest if you’re wondering).
Along the way I’ll expound on some of the other areas that have brought, or continue to bring, joy into my life:
Hiking and hillwalking (thanks to Sade; that’s a story for another day)
Movies, TV Shows and books
Lessons learned on the path from the desperation of drug and alcohol addiction to a life of sobriety
The stunning and heart stopping magic that’s all around us, even in the midst of darkness and chaos, just waiting for us to grasp and imbibe.
I’d love to tell you to strap in and get ready for a crazy ride. But in reality, it’s more like, “hey, kick off your shoes, grab that comfy chair by the fire, and let’s talk awhile…”
I’ll leave you with this: “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.
I’ve no idea how or when this ended up as my favorite song of all time. Granted, it’s probably the perfect pop song and arguably one of the greatest songs ever written. But I’m certainly not the biggest fan of the band and never listened to much of their music outside of the more popular songs. I think it comes down to the fact that I’m a hopeless romantic, always have been, and the lyrics really tap into that for me.
That’s all for now. Until next time, be kind to each other…
