That's my kind of system! I clearly need to level up. I have a Google Doc where list everything, but other than marking something as an EP, there's very little categorization or cross-referencing. Something to fix going into 2024...

Wow Mark, I'm thrilled you discovered half of these gems through Midweek Crisis, and thank you so much for the mention. It means a lot 🫶

"Your Eyes" by Debbie Parker iNC really resonated with me. And what a mystery! Just like you said, there's no useful information about her anywhere

I love your Excel idea and I think I'm gonna test such thing myself in 2024, but maybe in Notion which I'm addicted to (I wouldn't have achieved half of my goals in a year if it weren't for my planner and trackers at Notion).

You know, I think my yearly process of forming the "top of the top" playlist is quite a tedious thing. Perhaps it's like panning for gold or preparing mushrooms picked in the forest 🌲. You have to divide it all, look at it from all sides, sort and clean it several times until you only have the best pieces left. Every month I create a separate playlist from which only a few songs will make it to the top list. Since my playlists tend to grow beyond measure, I create also quarterly playlists over the course of a year, which are constantly evolving. It is only in December that they are finally filtered down to the final one. For sure, it's a messed up way to do so, but it's how it is 🤷‍♀️

I want to thank you for making me feel normal--that my own hyper anal process of album and song organization isn’t freakish! :-) You, in fact, make my method seem willynilly comparatively! I do something similar to you with EPs and singles, but don’t keep a spreadsheet...Looking forward to the future sections of your AOTY

Always happy to make people feel normal! Sounds like we’re both on the same spectrum of freakishness as it relates to album and song organization. I like to imagine there are some even more extreme than me!

It’s a great way to take the tracking out of my brain and into systems that will do the remembering for me. something that won’t forget, will remind me to re-evaluate and help me to come up with my final list. I also have a couple notes columns in my spreadsheet that I use for various tasks. At least once a month I’ll go through and mark albums for a relisten so I can continuously re-evaluate. If I tried to do all this in my brain over the course of the year I’d be lucky to come up with a top 5 list! 😆

I was also thrilled that I discovered half of them through Midweek Crisis! That Debbie Parker iNC is a real mystery isn’t it? If you find out anything do please let me know.

The Excel solution really works for me. If you give it a try on Notion let me know how it goes for you! If I tried to keep track of things in playlists instead of a spreadsheet I think my mind would explode, there’s just too much content!
