Great list of hidden and not-so hidden gems!💎 I’ll respond later with more detail. Love Bettye LaVette so much. I saw her perform live in December and she was amazing.
It was at a super awesome venue in Berkeley, California called Freight and Salvage and it holds about 500 people and it's all great sightlines and acoustics. She had an excellent band and told stories between songs. She mostly played songs from her latest album, Lavette!, which is about as close to an album of originals as she records. It's all songs written by Randall Bramblett, who most people would not know. Her encore was the Fiona Apple song, "Sleep to Dream." I'll probably write about her sometime this year and include a couple of photos I took.
I enjoyed the latest album. Not quite to the level of an AOTY selection for me but excellent nonetheless. Glad you got to see her, sounds amazing! Those smaller venues often produce some of the best shows
Great list! I wish more people knew that ‘Business As Usual’ is so much more than ‘Down Under.’ It really is a fantastic record all the way through.
P.S. I really miss Borders.
It really is such a fantastic and under appreciated album
