Some excellent tracks in your list there! I personally have no problem with you including Morrissey. I kind of feel like people are blowing out of proportion his assholery. I really liked I am the Quarry for the most part. It has several really good songs. And Morrisey’s solo career has enough excellent stuff in it to warrant a double album greatest hits.

if I were to do a similar playlist with theletter I, I might have to discard songs that start with the word I. My list might be 10,000 songs long to choose from. So good on you for finding a way to narrow it down!

I did wonder whether I should try to avoid songs beginning with the word I. But there were so many good songs popping up that I just had to go with it.

On the Morrissey thing, while I have a fairly lenient approach to artists’ public personas. A lot of people are assholes and that’s okay. But Morrissey’s embrace of a far-right anti-immigrant political party, his misogynistic comments around the #metoo movement, and his racism over the years crosses a line for me. The views he holds and publicly expresses have a capacity to do real harm to groups of people that are already oppressed and/or marginalized. And that doesn’t sit well with me.

While it hasn’t stopped me listening to the music occasionally, I wouldn’t support him financially by paying to see him in concert. Some people would say paying streaming royalties already represents too much support. But to each their own.

Great selection! I absolutely love Etta James. What a woman. What an artist. The performance you included, which I didn’t know, is captivating.

Thanks Andres! Etta James is fantastic. So under appreciated for so long. I’d never seen that video until last week and was grateful to find it because her performance is simply sublime.
