After being blown away by The Cure's new album, I wondered how it compares to other albums released by artists after a long layoff. Climb aboard and follow me down the rabbit hole to find out...
Love Aimee Mann, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sarah McLachlan! I always find it interesting how long it takes certain artists to complete a new album. (What has McLachlan been up to lately?!) I often wonder what they do in between. What exactly is D'Angelo's day to day life like?!
Yeah I’m at a loss to understand what artists get up to between albums, especially those that take long layoffs between albums and don’t tour regularly.
You’re right, that was thirty years. They didn’t appear in the Wikipedia list which I didn’t expect to be exhaustive. Kinda surprised they missed them though given how well Hard Light was received
Beautiful photos as always! There’s something special about a Scottish landscape.
Tons of new-to-me music to dive into here. Glad you’re enjoying The Cure’s new album. Not very familiar with their work but I can definitely relate to the excitement of listening to a long-awaited record. The longest spell I can think of is Whitney’s 8-year-gap between 1990 and 1998 but it’s not a fair comparison because this was just in terms of studio albums (she did a couple of soundtracks in between, notably The Bodyguard which was inescapable).
Thanks Andres! Scotland sure is beautiful, such diversity in landscapes across the country. Hope you found some music you liked in this week’s playlist!

Off the top of my head, Drop nineteens took 30(ish) years between records. That might be the longest one of any bands that I enjoy listening to.
