I was wondering whether the Bazooka Joe line would land because it’s a little dated 😆. Not sure they even make it any more! 54-40 sure had some great songs didn’t they?
The concert was fantastic, so glad I managed to get there!
I don't blame you for looking for a workaround here! I can think of a handful of X-bands, but not nearly enough to make a decent list.
I love that .38 Special track! Reminds me of big cars, hot summer nights and wasting them at the gas station by our neighborhood.
I'll give 4 Non-Blondes a try. I have to say that having the record on mandatory in-store play when it first came out wrecked it for me. Has enough time passed? We'll see!
I hear you. I would suggest you start with one of their lesser known tracks, from that very same album. The song is called "Dear Mr President". I believe it was their first single but it didn't really take off, not even remotely, when compared with "What's Up".
Dear Mr President was their first single and a great place to start. Not to be confused with the song of the same name by P!nk (and Indigo Girls), another great song from another fantastic album.
Great post as always! I love the workaround you found given the dearth of artists starting with X.
The band Xscape comes to mind, only because they collaborated with Mariah on the Always be My Baby remix. It's very interesting how such a radio-friendly pop/R&B anthem can all of a sudden get so edgy and urban, but this remix is a reflection of the music she wanted to focus on but would only be "allowed to" upon leaving Tommy Mottola -- link here for anyone interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHp-IiDgMWg
When you mentioned numbers, 4 Non Blondes and 8mm came to mind. I love the two respective albums you mention. And thanks for the info about 8mm -- I was also blissfully unaware of their latest work!
Really glad you enjoyed the concert! The videos look great -- seems like you managed to find a pretty good location despite the last-minute nature of the affair!
Lovely as always to catch up with you last Thursday. Safe travels!
Thanks Andy! I’d never heard of Xscape before, or that remix. It sounds so different, I really liked what they did with it.
That 4 Non Blondes album and the 8mm were both so good. I was excited to learn about the latest 8mm album and the fact that they’re still making music. It’s funny how sometimes I just forget about artists until I find out 29 years later they’ve been making music all that time!
The concert really was great, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Loved catching up with you again. Hopefully will be able to do so in Dec/Jan.
Oh, and so grateful for the clips of Bonny Light Horseman. What gorgeous vocals from Eric and Anais. Anais is so funny with her knee kick dancing. And the guitar is sublime. It’s funny how big that stage is. It looks like they all said, yeah, we’re gonna just use the middle part….
Now that you used the numbers diversion for X - how are you going to handle Y and Z? I hope you have Yello, Yazoo, Yellowman, Young Thug and other ilk in your collection! And of course the band Zebra. My guess: you’re going to include artists with those letters in their names….I can control the future! WaaaHaaaHaaa!
Dying over this: “like a thrice-chewed wad of Bazooka Joe, the flavor is gone before you even start to enjoy it.” Accurate!
I have the 54-40 self titled album! I had totally forgotten about One Day in Your Life! Such a fantastic song!
I got to see 311 a couple of years ago, and that was fun.
Going to have to check out some of the others on your list that I’m not familiar with.
The concert you went to sounds amazing!

I believe they still make it! I bought it for my kids once and they were NOT impressed 🤣🤣🤣

I can imagine hearing any album consistently on a forced basis would kill it for you. If you give it a listen, feel free to let me know your thoughts!
Will do!

A vaguely recall "Just Kickin' It" being a hit single here. I know we sold a LOT of copies of their record.

Glad you enjoyed the vids. They really were phenomenal, so glad I was able to get last minute tickets

Haha! Y is manageable, Z is less so 😂
