Thanks Kevin. Funnily enough, the reason I didn’t include that track was because I was sure I used it a few weeks ago when I featured Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the Y Artists. I remember now that I decided to go with the track Gold Lion instead so I could use Zero this week (and then promptly forgot lol)
Congrats on hitting the Z! Zimbabwe is def my only favorite from your picks, but an impressive variety nonetheless. One I can add to the list is Zebra Trucks from the Testcard EP by Young Marble Giants, their final release. All instrumentals as singer Allison Statton had already left the band. Still, wonderfully distinctive stuff that creates a mood.
Thanks Jeremy! Zimbabwe is my favorite track on this week’s playlist. Survival is one of my favorite Marley albums, probably third after the posthumous compilation “Chances Are” and “Kaya”.
Couldn’t find the Young Marble Giants track on Spotify, will go find in on YT and give it a listen.
Happy New Year, Mark! I hope you are enjoying your time away and that you are getting lots of rest.
Huge congratulations on getting through to the end of the series! It's been wonderful to hear your story through a selection of songs that were part of your CD collection, all in alphabetical order. Very original idea, and a great way for you as a writer to introduce yourself here on Substack.
I'm really excited to see what's next in store for Joy in the Journey!
Thanks for the shout out, Mark! I do love me some Zack and Sara! Yay to Ben Folds sticking it to the Nu Metal folks!:) I saw Ben at least three times solo and once reunited with the 5, which was awesome. I also went to a reading when he put out his memoir, A Dream About Lightning Bugs. I didn't like his latest solo album, sadly.
You can probably guess that I found the Z songs hit and miss, but I am thrilled to see Bob Marley, Nada Surf, Beach House, and Hot Hot Heat! I have a love/hate relationship with Zombie, as it is a big earworm for me and fairly torturous. I wrote about this torture a couple of years ago, in case you missed it!
And I actually like Actung Baby, but not "Zoo Station." I always skip that one. It's still miles better than anything they've done in the past two decades though.
Congrats on this major accomplishment! I'm sure you'll come up with an inventive idea for 2025. I can feel it! Good luck with the move!
Nice work, Mark! The first Z track that comes to mind is “Zero” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Thanks Andy, for always being a loyal and attentive reader, for your thoughtful comments, and our newfound friendship!
I’m also looking forward to seeing where Joy in the Journey goes this year!
Congratulations, Mark!
Thanks Jackie!!
Some great Z tracks here! My daughter plays Zombie as her choice on the way to school a lot and I’m totally into it!
