Lost in Translation Vol. 4 REVEALED
Lost in Translation is back with the answer to this week's song!
It’s Friday, which means we’re back with the answer to Monday’s Lost in Translation.
The Translated Lyric
Here’s the lyric I provided:
I fell in love but lost my feelings
citywide riots
Sooner or later the hot weather will end.
i feel bad
The Original Lyric
And here’s the original lyric as it was before being passed through half a dozen languages:
I've been in love and lost to my senses
Spinnin' through the town
Sooner or later, the fever ends
And I wind up feelin' down

The Song
Before we get to the reveal, a quick announcement on changes I’ll be making to this series. Based on responses to the poll included in Monday’s post, going forward I’ll be adding some hints in the initial post to help point people in the right direction. I’m also planning to post an update in Notes once or twice between Monday and Friday to add some more details that will narrow things down further and should help people in guessing the artist and song.
And now for the reveal! The lyrics are the first four lines from the second verse of Whitney Houston’s global smash hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” from her 1987 album Whitney. The song, written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam and produced by Narada Michael Walden, reached number one in eighteen countries and earned Houston the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The single has sold over 11 million copies globally, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time, and it was named the best pop song of all time by Billboard magazine in 2023.
And here’s the music video, cued up at the start of this week’s mystery lyric:
Feel free to jump into the comments with your thoughts:
How did you do? Were you close? Or completely stumped?
Did you know this song already?
Would you have been able to name the song from the original lyrics?
We’ll see you again on Monday with a new installment of Lost in Translation. Until then, happy listening!!
I did not get it. I WOULD have guessed it from the original lyrics, though. But your “clue” was good: the third line in the translation IS the closest to the original that I’ve seen in these challenges. The sad thing is that I JUST heard this song last weekend as Spotify was doing a female artists playlist for Women’s Day.
Wow! I never would have guessed it!
