I just hit play on the playlist so I'll give my impressions later, but I am impressed at how many artists you have here that I have never heard of. I do listen to a fair bit of new stuff but even the few I knew of (Throwing Muses, The Horrors, Lucy Dacus, Perfume Genius, My Morning Jacket), I haven't listened to yet. Most of March was listening to Violent Femmes for my album of the month discussion (it was fun! 16 folks showed up!), but now I'm playing newer stuff again.
What stood out for me in March were: Bob Mould, Divorce, The Tubs, Will Stratton and the 20th anniversary super-extended rerelease of Of Montreal's The Sunlandic Twins. It was one of my favorites from 2005.
Okay, these impressions are based only on the one song you shared and are likely to become vastly different reactions after hearing a whole album or even the same song a few more times...
Standouts: Circuit des Yeux, Throwing Muses (of course; I love everything Kristin Hersh does), Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, Sam Akpro (I played this a couple of times; was in the nostalgia buttons list as well)
Didn't fully grab me though I liked and it hit my musical nostalgia buttons: Glazyhaze, Pale Blue Eyes, Greentea Peng, girlpuppy, The Horrors (they hit the goth buttons hard), Postcards,
Need a few more listens to decide: Lust for Youth, Perfume Genius (it's very different from previous stuff)
Couldn't get into: My Morning Jacket (I've had a block regarding them since the beginning), Lucy Dacus (I appreciate her lyrics, but she's not for me -- I also couldn't get into boygenius, so take that with a grain of salt)
Lots of '90s alternative nostalgia stuff here! I felt like I stepped into a time machine!:)
Thanks as always for reading Steve, and taking the time to comment! The nostalgia quotient with this month’s picks is certainly high!
I’m wondering whether, with the shit show into which the world is devolving, I’ll be leaning into more nostalgic musical territory this year. That’s certainly what happened during the first year of the pandemic as I eschewed albums I might normally connect with and ended up connecting much more deeply with albums that reminded me of simpler and more joyful days.

Some great selections here! I missed the new Pale Blue Eyes one - I must check that out, especially with their Sheffield connection. Glazyhaze was another favourite of mine and a huge leap from their debut.
Look forward to diving into a few of these that I’ve not yet tried out. Love the new Perfume Genius, right up with his best. On the other hand, not taken at all by the Lucy Dacus album - have tried but just feels flat to me. Glad to hear you’re enjoying life in the UK!
Thanks as always for reading Andy! A fair bit of musical discovery comes from Substack but I also follow a few new music playlists on Spotify and check out Bandcamp every few days.
I'm biased, but I love the new Throwing Muses record. I've given the Lucy Daucus record a couple of listens and it hasn't quite landed yet, but it's growing on me
I’m also loving the Throwing Muses album. On Lucy Dacus, I’ve listened to the album a fair bit because I was really looking forward to it. It feels like a bit of a weaker effort to me and falls well short of 2021’s “Home Video” which was a top ten album for me that year. I’d assumed that her new album would automatically be a shoe in for my AOTY list this year, but honestly I’m not sure whether it’ll make the cut.
Great recommendations here ✨ "Las Olas" is fantastic! I really needed to hear such calming sounds today. Happy to jump straight into TSFSE's discography now

i somehow missed that too even though i had it saved...

Where do you find all these artists and records? I know I often say this but I’m stunned by the amount of new or new-to-me artists you listen to.

That’s great. I admire your curiosity and also your openness to new sounds. I have very little patience to do that 😂
great selection
